BIOGRAPHY JOHAN SCHULTE

 

I’m Johan Schulte, a friendly and easygoing person with a deep passion for music, life, and my family. I’m persistent, stubborn in my creative pursuits, and very social. My journey in music started in 2020, and it’s been a wild, inspiring ride ever since.

 

 

I was born in Zoetermeer, a small village in the Netherlands, and grew up in a close-knit, happy family despite our modest means. Music and movies were my world. I spent every bit of time and money on collecting vinyl records, cassettes, CDs, and VHS tapes. I loved tuning in to the radio, especially the Top 40 and annual mixes, recording my favorite tracks from the 80s—an era that still inspires me today.

 

Though I had zero knowledge of music theory or production when I first started, I took the plunge. In 2019, I made a major life change by quitting photography, selling all my gear, and investing that money into music equipment. My initial learning phase was all about music theory and countless YouTube tutorials. After experimenting with an alias “Tapestreamer” for two years, I dropped it and began producing under my real name, Johan Schulte.

 

 

I’m influenced by a wide range of music, but to name a few: Hans Zimmer, Armin van Buuren, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and of course, the timeless sound of the 80s. Good music is good music, regardless of genre, and I embrace it all.

 

 

Balancing a large family (yes, twelve kids!) with my passion for music means I compose whenever I can. I don’t work in a traditional studio because I find it uninspiring. Instead, I create music on my piano, right by the kitchen, surrounded by the energy of daily life. 

 

I’m a “full contact” composer—I draw inspiration from the everyday moments, conversations with friends, movies with my wife and kids, and life’s little experiences. My music has no boundaries when it comes to genre. I love blending different styles, bringing colors and stories to life through sound.
